Where are "my locations"?

The previous version of places.ae had a functionality that would aid people to store their locations, so you could look for places nearby your home, your office if these were defined. Although tested well, it didn't seem to hit off that much and we started rewriting all of this from scratch. Our log showed that less than 15 % of our users created a "location", and never used it more then a day after that.

We are currently testing the new interface of this, and also incorporating this into our mobile apps. This will make it easier for you to specify where you are, and get relevant local results.

The homepage has changed, but I can't login to my account anymore!

We upgraded our authenticaiton engine, to provide more flexibility and more robustness. As we store cryptographic hashes of your password (we don't store your password itself), we don't know what your password is. When checking to this engine, we also used a more secure hashing alghoritm. As we could not "recover" your old passwords, because we simply don't know it, we assigned new ones and emailed these to our users.

The maps are slow!

We use Google Maps on this website, and cannot control their performance. Being Google, they are very versatile and performing very well, but network saturation might slow them down a bit.

The entire website is slow!

Although we created a relative robust caching infrastructure, optimized web pages and monitor for any performance degradation, we could hit sometimes a peak in traffic, and a inevitable slowness of the applications. This should resolve itself in a matter of minutes though.

If you do encounter slowness for a prolonged period, please let us know and we'll address it directly.
