In plain english, Places.ae is a location based directory for the United Arab Emirates. It allows you to find out certain places of interest in your neighborhood. If you are accessing places.ae with a GPS enabled device, such as a BlackBerry© you could even look for "nearby" places from current location where you are. In the browser version (the one you're looking at now), you can save your own locations (such as home, office, etc) so you can look for certain places nearby home.

For business owners, places.ae can help you making your business known and advertise it to our visitors.

Every day we noticed a need to find places. Numerous times we stumbled across friends and colleagues asking "oh, where's the closest hospital", or "where can we eat something that's nearby?". To help everybody (in the UAE at least), we created places.ae.

Initially, in early 2008, it started off as a Ruby on Rails project, but we soon realized it's potential, and brough it live. Since then, the userbase and the directory has been growing steadily.
